I’ve finished speaking lessons – now what?

Now you practice! But how?
Make warming up your voice part of your morning routine…. And if that feels impossible, then schedule warm-up time before you speak.
Step 1. Come into your centred/balanced/open posture. Take a moment to feel throughout your body and make adjustments. Think about your habits and the things you often need to adjust to find that open place.
Step 2. Open your mouth and throat and do your best to release any tension from your jaw and tongue. We likely did a few different stretches/exercises for this – use the one(s) that works best for you.
Step 3. Breathe. Drop your pelvic floor, loosen your stomach muscles, and feel the air pour into your body.
Step 4. Vibrate. Hum and feel the vibrations in your body. Are they in your regular spots, or are they somewhere new? Where is your tongue? Is it tight? Hum on different pitches – your tongue and jaw should remain in neutral.
Step 5. Engage your core. Remember, the core goes out, not in.
Repeat! Open up, breathe, and vibrate.
Speak inside this space you’ve created in your body. The temptation will be to leave it, but commit to staying inside the space. The more you persist in this, the better you’ll become.
Now that you’ve warmed up, don’t over think. Enjoy it!
